DeMoss commits to Augie
Jonathan DeMoss, a four-year starter at St. Charles North, decided this weekend to play his college basketball at Augustana.
Despite a senior season that saw DeMoss play through a right elbow injury that he suffered during football, the wing averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists a game for the record-setting North Stars. He played one of his best games of the season, scoring 21 points in a 62-40 victory over South Elgin in the Class 4A DeKalb regional championship game.
The injury might have hurt his numbers but it didn't stop him from staying on the court and helping the team to a school record for wins and their first sectional victory before Dundee-Crown defeated them in the Elgin sectional championship game.
North Stars coach Tom Poulin praised DeMoss for both playing with the sore elbow and also accepting a role that helped the team succeed but resulted in a lower scoring average.
DeMoss will play in the backcourt for an Augustana team that always ranks not only among the best in the CCIW but the nation. DeMoss is a two-time selection to the Daily Herald's Tri-Cities All-Area team.
His teammates Nick Neari and Mike Kastel are still in the final stages of making their decisions, with Neari drawing interest from Division II schools and Kastel considering playing at a prep school.
