Semi overturns in Palatine, closes tracks, Route 14
A semi truck tipped over in Palatine today, blocking the railroad tracks and closing Northwest Highway for a few hours.
The semi overturned at around 11:40 a.m. at Northwest Highway and South Hicks Road after police said its load of steel coil shifted as the truck was turning onto Hicks.
Eastbound Northwest Highway and southbound Hicks remained closed until about 3 p.m.
The load had to be removed from the trailer before the truck could be moved off the tracks and uprighted.
Metra had few trains in the area at the time, so the incident only caused delays for two trains.
The 53-year-old truck driver from Grand Haven, Mich., was ticketed for failure to secure the load.
