It's about grads, not the church

In the April 2 Daily Herald, it was reported that Cardinal George was critical of Notre Dame for inviting President Obama to speak at their commencement. I hope he was misunderstood or was just overzealous in supporting the local South Bend bishop's unfortunate decision to boycott the ceremony. I doubt that the President's address will be about the Catholic Church's official position on Right-to-Life issues, but would more likely highlight Notre Dame graduates' responsibility and opportunity to promote social justice and world peace in their careers. The education at Notre Dame is geared toward these lofty goals and their ability to listen to world leaders, especially the President of the United States, should be wholeheartedly supported by all people of faith.
