St. Charles man charged in dispute over dog

A property dispute that began with a dog relieving itself ended with a St. Charles Township man being arrested on charges he struck a neighbor in the head with an oil lamp, police said Friday.

The altercation was reported about 9 p.m. Monday on the 38W200 block of Tom's Trail Drive, according to a Kane County Sheriff's report.

The neighbor told police he had taken his dog out to relieve himself when a man who lived nearby, Timothy J. Treutler, 51, claimed the dog was doing his business on his property.

According to the police report, the neighbor then confronted Treutler in the street, where Treutler hit him with an oil lamp, breaking his eyeglasses and leaving a small cut on his face.

At his residence on the 3700 block of Deville Lane, police said, Treutler claimed he hit the neighbor only after he was struck several times.

Treutler was charged with one count of battery and taken to the county jail. He was no longer listed as an inmate Friday. No serious injuries were reported.
