Attorney convicted of bringing drugs to inmate

A Chicago attorney has been convicted of bringing drugs to an inmate at the Cook County Jail.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office says 35-year-old Nathan Billmaier was found guilty in a bench trial Thursday.

Billmaier was charged with two counts of bringing contraband into a penal institution and two counts of possession with intent to deliver.

Authorities say Billmaier brought marijuana, Ecstasy, tobacco and drug paraphernalia to the inmate several times between February and May 2008.

The inmate's girlfriend allegedly gave the drugs to Billmaier, who was accused of hiding them in legal documents and bringing them to the jail during attorney visits.

Billmaier was allegedly paid $3,600 for the deliveries.

His sentencing is set for May 28.
