School districts share $654,000 in federal money
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says two Illinois school districts will share more than $650,000 in federal stimulus money for repairs and modernization.
Durbin announced Mascoutah Community Unit School District No. 19 and North Chicago School District No. 187 as the recipients Wednesday.
The money is part of a nationwide total of $39.6 million in Impact Aid Construction grants. The money is being distributed to communities with federal property such as military bases and American Indian reservations that don't generate local tax revenues.
The Mascoutah district just east of St. Louis will receive $402,528. The North Chicago district is slated to receive $251,897.
