Grayslake Central, Gargano slam Jacobs

Angelo Gargano was grand.

Gargano's second-inning grand slam propelled visiting Grayslake Central to a 7-2 win over Jacobs in Algonquin on Tuesday. The junior first baseman also had an RBI single for the 8-3 Rams.

"Ang is starting to show some life offensively and we need him to hit if we are going to have success as a team," Rams coach Troy Whalen said. "He's the best pure hitter on our team and he carried us today."

On the mound for the Rams, Southern Illinois-bound senior Aaron Snyder ran his record to 4-0, tossing 5 innings with 7 strikeouts and no earned runs. Junior Nick Richter struck out four and allowed no runs in his 2 innings of work.

Lake Zurich 3, Zion-Benton 2: Zion-Benton's Nick Soldano and Lake Zurich's Chas Evans locked up in a North Suburban Lake Division pitchers duel.

Evans pitched his way to his third consecutive win with outstanding command, said coach Gary Simon, whose Bears scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth.

Mike Miller came up with a key, two-out RBI single in the second to give Lake Zurich (7-5-1, 2-0) the lead. Ricky Erickson (2-for-2, walk) had his third consecutive multi-hit game for the Bears.

Evans pitched a complete game with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks. He allowed 5 hits, including a homer to the Zee-Bees' Eric Pasiewicz.

Cary-Grove 9, Grayslake North 3: Vinnie Licciardello was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Knights (2-7), who led 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth.

Cary-Grove scored 3 in the fifth and 6 in the sixth.
