Learn local birds:

Batavia Public Library presents "Walk Around Nelson Lake" to learn more about birds, in two parts: at 7 tonight at the library, 10 S. Batavia Ave., and 8 a.m. Saturday at Nelson Lake in the Dick Young Forest Preserve, Nelson Lake Road south of Main Street. Audubon Society member Bob Andrini will discuss spring migration and identify birds and birdcalls. Call (630) 879-4777.

ECC Poetry Slam:

Elgin Community College will hold its seventh annual Poetry Slam from 10 to 11:30 a.m. today in the Advanced Technology Center Auditorium, at 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Call (847) 214-7370 or visit studentlife@elgin.edu.

Drug seminar in Geneva:

"What's the Buzz?," a forum about energy drink use and abuse, the latest drugs being abused, and parents who host parties where youth are served alcohol, will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium at Geneva High School, 416 McKinley Ave. It is sponsored by the Geneva Coalition for Youth and presented by Geneva Police Detective Shelley Frangella, Delnor Hospital and the North Central Narcotics Task Force. Donate food in Batavia:

Volunteers from nine churches and the Batavia Lions Club will collect money and food donations for the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry Friday through Sunday at Amstadt's grocery store, Wilson and Van Buren streets, and Jewel-Osco, 119 S. Randall Road. Donations may also be dropped off at the pantry, 100 Flinn Drive. Food pantry hours are 7 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to noon Fridays.

Villarreal charity concert:

Join the family and friends of Dustin Villarreal for a memorial fundraising concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at Geneva High School, 416 McKinley Ave. It features Jack Flash and Rick Lindy and the Wild Ones. Tickets are available for $20 by contacting David Villarreal at dvilla9393@aol.com. All proceeds will go to support the Dustin Villarreal Family Memorial Scholarship. Scholarships go to Geneva High graduates who participated in varsity football, have good leadership skills and have demonstrated service to the community or their church.
