Illinois prisoner charged in attempted escape

PONTIAC -- A former Pontiac Correctional Center inmate faces four felony counts in connection with an attempt to escape from the central Illinois prison that left a prison guard injured.

Authorities say 23-year-old Anthony S. White has been charged in Livingston County with two counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer, one count of kidnapping and one count of escape from a penal institution with a weapon.

The current Tamms Correctional Center inmate was charged Friday.

Prosecutors say White broke out of his cell Jan. 25, attacked a prison guard and tried to escape before he was caught.
