10-car pileup on I-88 outside Downers Grove

Police and rescue crews are still trying to sort out the details behind a 10-car pileup on I-88 near the I-355 interchange outside Downers Grove this morning.

All lanes have been reopened in the westbound direction of the interstate, state police officials said, though delays are still being experienced due to the crash that started at 5:45 a.m.

Eastbound is also delayed because of people slowing down to look at the accident, officials said.

The crash took place near a highway work zone, officials said. Police officials remain unsure of the cause of the accident at this point, but there seems to be no injuries in the accident, officials added. Initial reports are the accident started due to slick weather conditions.
