Thoughtless dog owners ruin it for all

I have enjoyed walking my dog on the paths at Melas Park for many years now. I have noticed recently that Arlington Heights Park District has put up new signs with "no dog" restrictions.

Figuring the reason was because there are many dog owners who do not leash their dogs while walking and even worse, do not pick up after their dogs, I called the park district office and that was absolutely the reason I was given for the change.

I see dogs off leash each night and often worry that they will confront my dog or hurt someone. One never knows.

You know who you are ... you are the reason that all of us have lost the privilege of walking our dogs in the most beautiful park in the area. Many thanks for ruining a good thing.

Those of us who are responsible dog owners keep our dogs on leashes and always have a plastic bag in our pocket for clean up. It's too bad everyone can't be responsible.

I just feel that my husband and I pay taxes for schools and parks, have no children, and would like to be able to use the parks at least to take a walk with our dog.
