Nursing home resident's death ruled murder

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has ruled that a nursing home resident who died nearly two weeks ago was murdered.

Authorities say 63-year-old Thomas Donovan died on April 1 at South Shore Hospital in Chicago. He had been a resident of a nursing home facility in south suburban Burnham.

The medical examiner's office ruled Sunday that Donovan died from multiple injuries suffered during an assault, plus hypertension and diabetes. His death was ruled a homicide.
