Budget woes force move for some state cops
SPRINGFIELD -- Budget problems will mean a change in location for some Illinois state police employees.
State police have decided to move out of the decaying building that serves as headquarters for the Springfield area. The building needs about $1.6 million in repairs to its windows, sewers and heating systems.
Employees at the district headquarters will be moved to the main state police building in downtown Springfield this summer.
A state police spokesman says moving the district headquarters should cost only $280,000.
The current district headquarters is 66 years old. At least three other state police district offices are more than 70 years old.
