Youth football players honored for hard work

The Gilberts Grizzlies Youth Football Program, part of the Pop Warner Youth Football and Spirit Program, congratulates the following players who have been recognized nationally by the Pop Warner Little Scholars Organization for their scholastic achievements.

This means that they rank academically in the top 2 percent of approximately 410,000 children that take part in the Pop Warner Little Scholars Spirit and Football programs.

Pop Warner Little Scholars recognizes these children at an annual national banquet that will be held in Orlando, Fla., this year.

Pop Warner awards these scholars with prizes and scholarships for kids in fifth grade and up.

The players who were recognized at the national banquet in Orlando, Fla., this year include: Gilberts residents Jeremy Curran, Brady McMorris and Christian McCusker.

Pop Warner Little Scholars also recognizes players on a regional level for their academic achievements.

They also would like to congratulate the following players who were recognized at the regional banquet in Lincolnshire this year.

These scholars received prizes for their academic achievements: Brett Johnson of Sleepy Hollow; Nick Mohlman of Carpentersville; Trevor Windbiel of Carpentersville; and Omar Perez of Gilberts.

Pop Warner Little Scholars Inc. is the only national youth sports organization in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before permitting them to play.

They believe that the standards they have set give these children a sense of responsibility and an appreciation for academics and athletics that will help them develop later on in life.
