Country Club Hills man held on $50,000 bond on drug charges

A Country Club Hills man was ordered held in the Lake County Jail after police say they arrested him with 25 Ecstasy pills.

Assistant State's Attorney Scott Turk said Chad Tolbert, 22, faces a mandatory prison sentence of between six and 30 years if convicted.

Turk said Tolbert was driving near the intersection of Route 176 and Midlothian Road in Mundelein about 6:45 p.m. Thursday when police stopped his car because it had no taillights.

An officer saw open beer cans in the car and pieces of marijuana scattered about the vehicle and ordered Tolbert to get out, Turk said.

During a pat-down search, Turk said the officer found two small plastic bags inside the waistband of Turk's pants.

One of the bags contained 15 Ecstasy pills, Turk said, and there were 10 inside the second bag.

Tolbert, of the 17000 block of Winston Lane, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

Turk told Associate Judge Christopher Stride that Tolbert has a 2007 conviction for felony theft.

Stride set the bond, which requires Tolbert to post $5,000 in cash to be released, and ordered him to appear in court again April 21.
