Montini still unbeaten
Montini stayed unbeaten at 6-0 with a 4-1 victory against St. Francis in its Suburban Catholic Conference opener.
Sean Keeley (1-0) was the complete-game winning pitcher, scattering 3 hits while striking out four. Colin Meister's solo home run in the second inning proved to be the game-winning run.
Wheaton North 4, Benet 1: Trey Martin (3-0) and the Falcons (6-0) stayed unbeaten as Mike Coduto drove in a pair of runs and Mike Small went 3-for-3. Martin struck out seven while allowing 3 hits and no earned runs. Benet fell to 4-4.
Glenbard North 3, Rolling Meadows 2: After Rolling Meadows tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Panthers (4-2) scored the winning run in the top of the eighth in the nonconference extra-inning game. Alex Kowalczyk won on the mound.
West Chicago 4, Jacobs 3: Tyler Christ's 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning put the Wildcats (6-3) ahead to stay. Jordan Long (2-1) was the complete-game winning pitcher.
Wheaton Academy 7, Newark 1: David McCarthy's bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh broke open the nonconference win for the Warriors (2-2). Eric Albaugh (1-0) picked up the win and John Lace earned the save.
Addison Trail 6, Downers North 5: The Blazers (4-6) broke a 5-5 tie by scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh inning of the West Suburban Conference crossover game. Tyler Ramir went 3-for-4 and Costa Diamond had a pair of hits. Nick Larsen earned the win, Matt Haas the save.
Willowbrook 16, Oak Park 10: Sparked by a 3-run homer by Brett Buchanan, who had 5 RBI, the Warriors (5-3) exploded for 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning and held on in the West Suburban Conference crossover slugfest. Brian Monette went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Brian Morgan (3-1) was the winning pitcher in relief.
Glenbard West 9, Hinsdale South 3: Jordan Rock went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI for the Hilltoppers (5-5) in the West Suburban Conference crossover. Chris Kavanaugh and Ben Krusen each had 2 hits.
Hinsdale Central 10, Proviso East 0: Josh Camalick, Charlie Herr and Will Pahos, who drove in 2 runs, each had 2 hits for the Red Devils (2-4). Robbie Bellusci (1-0) was the winning pitcher and allowed 3 hits in the five-inning West Suburban Conference crossover.
Yorkville 7, Glenbard South 4: A 4-run top of the seventh inning allowed the Foxes to pull out the Western Sun Conference victory. Sterling Smith went 3-for-4 with a home run for Glenbard South (7-4, 2-1).
St. John U-High 6, Neuqua Valley 3: The Wildcats (3-2) built an early 3-0 lead but couldn't hold on in the opening game of their three-day trip to Louisiana. Jordan Williamson went 3-for-4 with a home run for Neuqua Valley, which today plays Live Oak and Parkview Baptist and on Saturday plays Zachary.
