East Dundee man sentenced in child sex assault

A former East Dundee man was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison for sexually assaulting a sleeping 16-year-old girl more than four years ago.

Joshua L. Westmorland, 21, formerly of the 100 block of Barrington Avenue, was sentenced by Kane County Judge Timothy Q. Sheldon, who convicted him Jan. 9 of sexual exploitation of a child.

According to the Kane County state's attorney's office, Westmorland assaulted the girl on March 4 and 5, 2005, when he was 17, and later performed a sex act in front of the girl, then 16.

Westmorland must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence and register as a sex offender. He was credited for nine days spent in the county jail.
