Rick Zirk, Gilberts village president-elect

So what's your new mayor like? The Daily Herald asked our new mayors and village presidents a few 'get to know you' questions Wednesday, the day after voters chose them to lead their communities.

Rick Zirk, Gilberts village president-elect

Q. Who is your political role model?

A. Jim Edgar. I met the guy a few times, and he always seemed to stick to his ideals, and he was honest.

Q. What is the first thing you want to change?

A. The thing we do need to change is the atmosphere. There's no inclusiveness. We just need to be more open and understanding. That's not "us" versus "them."

Q. What is your favorite movie?

A. "Glory" (The Denzel movie)

Q. How did you celebrate?

A. Trying to figure out the results. We were in (former Gilberts Village President) Everett Clark's conference room with some pizza and pop. It was an anticlimactic win because we were never really sure of the numbers.

Q. What's the last good book you read?

A. "A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity," Bill O'Reilly's latest

Q. Cubs or Sox?

A. Sox
