Libertyville Mayor Terry Weppler
More than a dozen new mayors were elected last week in the North and Northwest suburbs. The Daily Herald asked Terry Weppler, who claimed the top post in Libertyville, some getting-to-know-you questions.
Q. Who is your political role model?
A. My political role model is Bill Madole. Bill was on the village board when I was elected to the board 30 years ago. He was my mentor and teacher. Bill spent 15 years on the village board and was always looking out for the village's and residents' best interests and never concerned about himself. When something needed to be done Bill did it. He taught me respect for the village and how to step up and get things done while being humble in word.
Q. What is the first thing you want to change?
A. The first thing I would like to change is the way the public perceives the village at this time. We want residents to feel that the village is approachable and will listen to residents' concerns.
Q. What is your favorite movie?
A. I loved Marley & Me since I'm such a dog lover.
Q. How did you celebrate?
A. We all met at Austin's Restaurant along with many other candidates including all the trustee candidates I supported.
Q. What's the last good book you read?
A. I don't get many chances to read since I don't like to start a book unless I can read it all the way through. When I am on vacation I like James Patterson novels.
Q. Cubs or Sox?
A. I'm not silly enough to answer that question. I can get in enough trouble myself without getting into that kind of argument.
