Jim Schwantz, Palatine mayor-elect

So what's your new mayor like? The Daily Herald asked our new mayors and village presidents a few 'get to know you' questions Wednesday, the day after voters chose them to lead their communities.

Jim Schwantz, Palatine mayor-elect

Q. Who is your political role model?

A. I don't really have one.

Q. What is the first thing you want to change?

A. I don't know that there's any one thing I want to change. What I want is to change the mayor's role to be a true ambassador. That's what I got the most from my canvassing. People are looking for someone who will really listen and not just align themselves with certain entities or groups. They're looking for a mayor for everybody. I want to be approachable.

Q. What is your favorite movie?

A. "Gladiator."

Q. How did you celebrate?

A. With about 500 of my closest friends at Durty Nellie's. Almost everybody who helped on my campaign was there, which meant a lot to me.

Q. What's the last good book you read?

A. The Bible.

Q. Cubs or Sox?

A. Sox.
