Jerald Bartels, East Dundee

So what's your new mayor like? The Daily Herald asked our new mayors and village presidents a few 'get to know you' questions Wednesday, the day after voters chose them to lead their communities.

Q. Who is your political role model?

A. I would say my grandfather, William Bartels, who was both a village trustee and village president in East Dundee for 48 years.

Q. What is the first thing you want to change?

A. The openness and transparency, especially of committee meetings. I would make sure they are posted so the public can attend and minutes prepared.

Q. What is your favorite movie?

A. "Lord of the Rings" trilogy

Q. How did you celebrate?

A. There wasn't a lot of celebrating. I talked to a few people on phone and spent the evening at home with family.

Q. What's the last good book you read?

A. "Presenting the Win," by Jerry Weissman

Q. Cubs or Sox?

A. Cubs.
