Keller re-elected in West Dundee

West Dundee Village President Larry Keller appeared headed to easy re-election Tuesday, according to unofficial vote totals.

Although write-in votes for Keller's opponent, Michael Elmore, had not yet been counted late Tuesday, it appeared mathematically impossible for him to win. Keller garnered 710 votes out of 891 ballots cast, unofficial tallies indicate.

Voters also returned Trustees Patrick Hanley and Norm Osth to the village board, and elected newcomer Julie Voss, according to the results.

If the election was a referendum on the board's approval of a Wal-Mart Supercenter near Spring Hill Mall, voters appeared to back that decision in re-electing Keller, Hanley and Osth. All three supported the Wal-Mart proposal.

"I think it indicates that the voters have approved of the decisions the board has made in the past," Keller said.

Elmore, who ran as a write-in candidate after he was knocked off the ballot on a challenge to his nominating documents, and trustee hopefuls Steve Geati and Lisa Geisler all questioned the village board's unanimous vote to approve Wal-Mart.
