Elgin workshop to give tips on building a deck

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley's ReStore, 800 N. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin, is offering a free workshop on "Decks: Choosing Materials, Installation and Basic Components."

Taught by Rich Cowgill, vice president of National Association of Remodeling Industry of Greater Chicagoland, the workshop will be a fun and interactive experience. The free workshop will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11.

Whether someone is building a new deck, or repairing a current deck on their own or through hiring a professional, this workshop will provide valuable information.

"I make sure everyone leaves with greater understanding of the materials to use, the appropriate language, and with the confidence to make good decisions," Cowgill said. "I will show people how to choose, and use the right tools and materials. Every question is answered and there is some hands-on participation. Even if you've built a deck before, I'm confident participants will learn something new."

For information or to sign up for a current workshop, visit www.restoreelgin.org, call (847) 742-9905 or stop by during open hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. ReStore is at 800 N. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin.
