D'Astice wins seat in Rolling Meadows race

Former alderman John D'Astice won the 6th Ward seat on the Rolling Meadows City Council, topping incumbent Kathy Kwandras.

With all three precincts counted, D'Astice had 108 votes, or 61 percent, and Kwandras had 70 votes, according to Tuesday's unofficial results.

D'Astice, 6th Ward alderman from 1993 to 2005, was required to step down due to term limits. Kwandras was elected in 2005. D'Astice has criticized hiring of police and firefighters during the city's self-imposed hiring freeze and questioned a police checkpoint set up in June at the entrance to the 12 Oaks apartment complex.
