Buffalo Grove birthday party ends in underage drinking bust
Buffalo Grove resident Jeni Roberts and her friends will likely never forget her 21st birthday party.
Buffalo Grove Police late Friday night busted nine of Roberts' friends for underage drinking at her party, which was held in the clubhouse of the Arbors condominium complex at 7 Oak Creek Drive.
Officers originally responded to complaints of a loud party at the clubhouse and found roughly 20 people drinking.
Police gave the underage partygoers a portable breath test to check for alcohol. They arrested Danielle T. Wagner, 19, of Long Grove; Brent C. Bewick, 19, of Schaumburg; Ravi H. Vakil, 19, of Riverwoods; Richard A. Wood, 19, of Mundelein; Jacob E. Levitus, 19, of Prairie View; Daniel Ruiz-Santamaria, 18, of Deerfield; Amanda P. Dermer, 20, of Long Grove; Morgan W. Bonnem, 20, of Buffalo Grove; and Preston J. Dorrier, 20, of Arlington Heights.
They were issued citations under local ordinance for unlawful possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor, police said.
Roberts, and her father Igor Shneyderman, 45, were charged with public nuisance assemblage for hosting the party under a local ordinance. Roberts' father had reserved the clubhouse, police said.
Police last month busted another underage drinking party involving 16 Buffalo Grove High School students. The 46-year-old mother who hosted the party also was similarly charged.
"We try to be diligent about that type of social issue because we don't condone it," Buffalo Grove Police Cmdr. Steve Husak said. "Community members, parents, adults -- we all have a role to play."
Everyone charged was released on personal recognizance bonds and a preliminary hearing is set for May 22 at the Lake County Branch Court in Mundelein. A judge will decide whether to make the violators attend alcohol counseling classes, perform community service, pay a small fine and/or undergo supervision, Husak said.
