Berman elected in North Aurora
Voters promoted North Aurora trustee Dale Berman to the position of village president Tuesday, unofficial election results show.
Berman captured 816 votes with all 10 precincts reporting to defeat challenger Mark Vogt, with 167 votes, and fellow village board members Max Herwig, with 611, and Linda Mitchell, with 569.
The four candidates each sought to succeed outgoing Village President John Hansen, who did not run for re-election. Herwig and Mitchell fell short of winning with 28 and 26 percent of the vote, respectively. Vogt received 8 percent.
Berman, 75, could not be reached for comment. He is a retired information systems professional who has previously served one term as village president and four terms as a trustee. He campaigned on a platform of fiscal responsibility in the weak economy.
Herwig, 63, is a retired technical manager with AT&T who sells real estate part-time and operates a small home-repair business. A trustee for 14 years and a previous interim village president, Herwig pledged to cut village costs and pursue increased revenue.
Mitchell, 63, is Kane County's elections director and a former North Aurora village clerk. She campaigned on a platform of commercial growth and fiscal responsibility.
Vogt, 47, is an information technologies consultant and a newcomer to local politics. His top issue was the revitalization of the village's riverfront area.
