Lake Zurich's Kreutz commits to Michigan State

Michigan State University has more than just a good men's basketball team.

The Spartans' men's soccer team was the 2008 Big 10 regular-season and tournament champions and earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament.

They'll be adding an exceptional player next year, as Lake Zurich junior forward Tim Kreutz has given a verbal commitment to MSU, whose men's basketball team played in the national championship game Monday night.

Kreutz also considered offers from programs in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Atlantic 10 and MAC. Other Big Ten schools expressed interest in him, too.

A forward, Kreutz had 22 goals and 8 assists last fall for the Bears. He was named co-captain of the Daily Herald's Lake County All-Area Team along with teammate Nick Janus. The duo helped the Bears post an 18-2-3 record.

Kreutz currently plays club soccer for the Sockers FC Chicago U16 Academy team and is coached by David Richardson.

Michigan State has played in the NCAA tournament in four of the last eight years.
