SIU student from Hoffman hospitalized in Carbondale crash

A 26-year-old Hoffman Estates man enrolled at Southern Illinois University suffered serious injuries over the weekend in an alcohol-related rollover crash in Carbondale, according to police.

Wesley Crocket, whose Hoffman Estates address was given as the 2000 block of Shepard Road, was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to a release from the Jackson County Sheriff's office.

Crocket was behind the wheel about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of the car, which flipped end over end and landed upside down on a private yard, police said. Crocket and a passenger, Raymond Sitkowski, were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, police said, adding the pair were wearing seat belts.

SIU lists Crocket as a senior studying hospitality and tourism administration, while Sitkowski, who was released from the hospital, is listed as a junior journalism major. Hospital officials didn't return phone calls seeking an update on Crocket's condition.
