April showers bring snow plowers -- and more in the forecast

An April snowstorm that fell over the Chicago area left thousands without power overnight, ComEd officials said this morning.

The weather, which dropped more than 3 inches of snow overnight also postponed the home opener for the Chicago White Sox on the city's south side.

ComEd officials said up to 11,000 people were without power overnight, though less than 5,000 customers were still in the dark as of 5 a.m. today. Of those 5,000, less than 1,000 outages were in the northern suburbs.

The National Weather Service said Naperville and Aurora seemed to tally the highest snowfall accumulations, picking up more than 3 inches late Sunday and early Monday.

Lake and Cook counties seemed to escape somewhat unscathed, only picking up about an inch of actual accumulation.

Flights at O'Hare were delayed 15 to 30 minutes during the heart of the snowstorm, but everything was back on track for the Monday rush, officials from the Chicago Department of Aviation said.

Meteorologists predict temperatures will hit 40 degrees today, before getting into the 50s Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain or snow is expected to fall again late Thursday or early Friday.
