Fire at vacant Campton Township farmhouse under investigation

St. Charles fire investigators are seeking a cause of a suspicious blaze that erupted early today at a farmhouse in unincorporated Campton Township.

Officials said the St. Charles Fire Department was summoned to 40W808 Silver Glen Road. The fire was roaring in a one-and-a-half-story farmhouse when authorities arrived about 3:10 a.m.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the blaze. One was treated at the scene and the other at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

Officials said the fire broke out in a home that was scheduled for demolition. The official cause was listed as suspicious as of this afternoon, but fire officials couldn't provide details.

No water system exists near where the fire occurred. Water had to be shuttled to the scene, according to a St. Charles Fire Department release.

Authorities said there was a threat of the fire spreading from the farmhouse to other buildings on the vacant property. The fire was under control by a little after 4:30 a.m. today.

St. Charles received held from fire crews from Batavia, Geneva, Elburn, West Chicago, North Aurora, Fermi National Laboratory and South Elgin.

Many calls reporting the fire were received by the Tri-Com 911 Center.
