'Experience' shouldn't be only criteria

Your "Opinion" that Elk Grove voters should retain the current trustees just because they have "experience," appears as a very superficial criteria.

If we vote based on that criteria alone it would absolutely shut out any fresh opinions, new voices, and contemporary thought. My observation has been that the longer any politician is in office, whether local, state or national, they eventually tend to lose sight of who they are representing, and are inclined to just agree with each other that they know what's "best" on issues.

One can have 10 years of experience on the board, but only have one year of experience, 10 times. To criticize a challenger for not serving on boards is inane. He or she may lack village board experience but does offer the opportunity of a background, education, career and life experience that could well be beneficial to the community.

I don't believe that our founders envisioned that the terms of these offices were to be lifelong. Your criteria would leave no other choice.
