Dolphin dies at Brookfield Zoo

Brookfield zoo officials say a 15-year-old female dolphin has died after weeks of illness.

Kaylee had a history of periodic health issues and was euthanized Friday at the Brookfield Zoo.

Zoo officials say she had been treated for a fungal infection with X-rays CT scans and ultrasounds.

In 2006, Kaylee was treated for an abscess on her lung and remaining scar tissue made her susceptible for future infections.

Kaylee lived in the zoo's Seven Seas exhibit with her mother and two siblings.

Meanwhile, officials at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo pinpointed the cause of death for a chimpanzee named Kipper. Officials say he suffered from a respiratory virus that causes common colds in humans.

After Kipper's death late last month, six other chimpanzees he lived with were placed under quarantine.
