DuPage County briefs
Election results on ACTV:
ACTV, Aurora's cable television station, will broadcast election results beginning at 7 p.m. April 7 on Comcast Channel 10. The races include those for Aurora mayor, aldermen and Aurora Township. Bob Shelton, host of "Aurora Talks," has lined up four guests to offer political, historical and present-day insights: Alderman-at-Large Bob O'Connor, Ward 6 Alderman Mike Saville, Aurora Historical Society Executive Director John Jaros and public information officer Amy Roth. The broadcast also will include videographers stationed at the three Aurora mayoral candidates' election night headquarters, footage from "Aurora Talks," candidates' forums and the politically-inspired "Millennium Moments."
Losing the training wheels:
For most children, learning to ride a bike is a rite of passage toward independence. But for children with special needs, mastering a two-wheeler often comes with much more difficulty. This summer, they can gain some help with a Lose the Training Wheels program that Easter Seals DuPage and Fox Valley Region will offer July 13-17. Funded with the help of grants from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and CVS Caremark, the program is geared toward children with special needs such as Down syndrome, mild cerebral palsy and sensory integration challenges. Forty children will be able to participate. For details, contact (630) 620-4433 or eastersealsdfvr.org.
Hydrant flushing in Lombard:
Lombard public works crews will flush more than 2,500 fire hydrants over the next two months to help maintain their water distribution system. Crews will concentrate their efforts between 4 and 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. For details, call (630) 620-5740.
