Tivoli tops list of best movie theaters
The Tivoli is tops!
Classic Cinemas' flagship Tivoli Theatre has for a second year been voted "best movie theater" by readers of West Suburban Living magazine. Classic restored the 1,000-seat building to its former 1928 opulence, with the addition of digital sound and digital 3-D projection. With the Downers Grove Library "Big Read" program, the Tivoli will present the 1947 comedy "The Egg and I" starring Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray as city folks who move to the country to raise chickens. $4; classiccinemas.com.
1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Tivoli Theater, 5021 Highland Ave., Downers Grove.
'The Merry Gentleman'
Tim Burton's Batman Michael Keaton makes his feature directorial debut with a drama co-starring Arlington Park native Tom Bastounes, who also serves as executive producer. It's about a suicidal hit man (Keaton) who befriends an abused woman (Kelly Macdonald). Mike McNamara of the Midwest Independent Film Festival reports that Chicago talent made up 95 percent of the production team. $10; midwestfilm.org. Filmmakers will hang out for a post-screening Q&A session.
