Peoria's Legace shuts down Wolves

PEORIA - Peoria Rivermen goaltender Manny Legace stopped all 30 Chicago Wolves shots for a 3-0 victory Wednesday night at the Carver Arena.

The Wolves (36-34-3-2) remain tied for fifth place in the West Division, 5 points away from earning the fourth and final playoff spot.

The shutout was the third for Legace (11-7-1) in 21 games with Peoria this season.

The Rivermen (40-31-2-2) scored first on the power play at 11:50 of opening period. Center Yan Stastny skated to the point and ripped a one-timer through traffic and past Wolves goalie Ondrej Pavelec.

Peoria made it 2-0 at 9:30 of the second period when center Julian Talbot collected a cross-ice pass from defenseman Jim Jackson, skated to the crease and fired a long wrister over the glove of Pavelec (18-19-1), who stopped 22 shots.

Right wing Carl Corazzini corralled a rebound and flipped the puck deep into the net with 50 seconds remaining in the second period to complete the scoring.

The Wolves continue their battle for a playoff berth Friday night, when they visit the Quad City Flames.
