Given gas prices, profits, drop credits

Wasn't the price of gas a presidential campaign issue? I see that as we get closer to summer the price of gas is rising again. Considering that the price of a barrel of crude oil cost around $160 at one time and dropped to $40; the price of a gallon of gas fell only from around $4.60 to about $2. Considering the current state of the economy and the record profits at gas companies like Exon-Mobil, isn't it time we drop their tax credits and other favorable treatments?
