Lyons officials recorded using racist language
LYONS -- Officials of a Chicago suburb say they have apologized for using racist and sexist language in a conversation that was recorded.
Village President David Visk said he inadvertently activated a recording device inside a Lyons police car when he was driving it to Chicago for a parade last summer. Trustee Richard Schuppe was the other person in the car.
Visk is heard saying he enjoyed the parade route because it allowed him to look up women's skirts as they sat on the curb.
Schuppe is heard using a racial slur to describe a black man who delivered a refrigerator to his home.
Visk, who is seeking re-election, says release of the recording nine months after the conversation occurred was politically motivated. He noted Lyons police officers have endorsed a rival candidate.
