Obama fails endangered wolf
It is truly a sad day when the Obama administration continues the environmentally destructive polices of the Bush Administration.
However, our new president did just that recently when he allowed a protected species to be taken off the Endangered Species List.
Canis Lupus, more commonly known as the Grey Wolf, has endured a lifetime of humans trying to eradicate its existence. For the last century, it has been hunted to near extinction and today there are fewer than 1,500 in all the Rocky Mountain States.
Nonetheless, according to right-wing, gun-tooting politicians like Governor C.L. Butch Otter of Idaho (never a safe-haven for anything left off the Endangered Species List); this animal should be hunted to extinction as a means to boost his state's economy. Sounding much less civilized than the animal he wishes to shoot, Otter said "The fish and game population is really counting on a robust population of trophy animals to maintain that part of our economy."
Mr. President, you were elected on the premise of change, not a continuation of the previous administration. Do you really want to be associated with politicians bent on ecological destruction?
Here is an animal that comes in second only to the ubiquitous Bald Eagle as a symbol of the wilderness you swore to preserve during your many oratory moments of the presidential campaign.
Now, when you have the chance to right the environmental wrongs of the Bush Administration, you allow this beautiful creature to be hunted for sport.
I certainly hope the eradication of the Grey Wolf is not part of your stimulus package. If so, you might try looking at the world through the eyes of this magnificent animal. An animal you allowed to be cast aside for greed.
