Chicago mayor tells police to get real
Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says the city's taxpayers have been very good to their public employees, and police officers should remember that in coming days.
Members of the Fraternal Order of Police are threatening to picket Daley on Thursday when the International Olympic Committee comes to Chicago to consider its suitability to host the 2016 Olympic games.
Contract negotiations between the city and the police union are at an impasse over a salary increase.
Daley pointed out yesterday (Tuesday) that many taxpayers face joblessness, and public employees have to understand the real world.
Fraternal Order of Police President Mark Donahue says police officers live more in the real world than others. He noted crime rises in tough economic times, and police are there to respond.
