Authorities: Man had 360 pounds of pot
A Texas man was ordered held Tuesday on a $1 million bond after police said a traffic stop in DuPage County led to the discovery of 360 pounds of marijuana worth $1.6 million.
Reynaldo Sanchez, 63, of McAllen, Texas, is charged with two felony counts of cannabis trafficking and delivery charges.
Prosecutors said an Illinois State Police trooper stopped Sanchez's minivan late Monday on I-55 near Cass Avenue for speeding. They said the trooper later discovered 15 packages of marijuana hidden inside the minivan.
Sanchez is suspected of transporting the illegal drug from Texas to the Chicago area, where narcotic experts said it would have been sold for about $10 a gram. Sanchez was traveling alone.
If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison. DuPage Associate Judge Mark Dwyer set the bond Tuesday.
