Des Plaines endorsements are way off the mark
Your endorsements of Des Plaines candidates are irresponsible and lack credibility.
1st Ward: Nothing is mentioned about the credentials of Eugene Fregetto. You totally ignored the fact that Fregetto is a full-time professor at the University of Illinois teaching entrepreneurship and marketing courses for the College of Business. Fregetto also has degrees in Urban Planning and Policy and Architectural and Structural Engineering. Patricia Haugeberg is chosen on the basis of being a condo dweller.
3rd Ward: Occasionally abrasive is a quality we definitely need on the council.
5th Ward: Jim Brookman is disqualified because he happens to be married to Carla Brookman! The "strident polarization" on the council occurred when the aldermen voted 7-1 against the wishes of the residents. What about Brookman's successful stint on the park district board and his achievements bringing the self-supporting Golf Center to Des Plaines? Or Prairie Lakes? What skills does Dan Winiecki have?
7th Ward: What are Dan Wilson's qualifications? Here we go again. Joe Kozenczak is not endorsed because he lacks tremendous qualifications. You believe Joe Kozenczak is unworthy because he happens to be married to Karen Hendricksen. These are two individuals who have contributed years of service to Des Plaines, as have the Brookmans.
I believe that you lack knowledge of Des Plaines Council history. If you are going to choose one candidate over another it should be a complete and fair reporting. You make a joke out of our election by frivolous choices. I would hope that the Daily Herald Editorial Board would treat our candidates seriously as this election is a serious matter to the future of our community.
