BG mayor urges support for Route 53 referendum
I urge everyone in (Lake) County to join me in supporting the extension of Route 53 with a yes vote. As a mayor concerned about our regional traffic gridlock, I ave come to appreciate the compelling need for Lake County to speak with a unified voice on the Route 53 extension.
Many of the communities in the county over the years have passed resolutions in support of 53, as we have in Buffalo Grove, because of the positive impact it could have on the entire county in terms of reducing traffic gridlock, congestion and stimulating economic development and access to jobs. If you agree with me that this long stalled project needs to be kept in the forefront for the long term vitality of the entire county and if you are fed up with being stuck in traffic please cast a "yes" vote on the 53 Referendum during early voting or on April 7th.
A strong showing throughout the county will help stimulate the political will to get this needed project moving. There will be ample opportunity during the planning process for everyone to share their views on details of how the road should be built to insure that it is a roadway that we can all take pride in. It should be stressed that the need for improving local roads and moving forward with projects like the 120 bypass in the north of county and the improvement of Route 41 in the east, does not take away from the compelling need for a major north south roadway to serve central and western Lake County with links to other roadways. Let's do what we need to do to jump-start the process. Simply come out and vote "Yes".
