Autopsy doesn't show how Elgin boy died

An autopsy performed Monday on a 5-year-old Elgin boy found dead on the city's southeast side did not indicate his cause of death, police said this evening.

As a result, the Kane County coroner's office will conduct further tests to help determine his official cause of death, officials said.

At 10:50 p.m. Friday, police responded to a home on the 600 block of Congress Street amid reports a child there did not show any vital signs, according to a news release.

Officers found the child in his bed, Deputy Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said.

At the coroner's request, police are not identifying the child, Swoboda said, adding that police had no further information to release.
