Illini meet goals in 24-win season but look ahead

CHAMPAIGN -- Bruce Weber says his Illinois team set three goals going into this season: make it to the NCAA Tournament, win 24 games and become a better team.

Check, check and check.

But the Illini's exit in the NCAA first round was a hollow ending to what was a surprisingly good season. Western Kentucky upset Illinois 76-72.

Weber told reporters Tuesday that the team needs to find new leadership for next season.

Senior guard Chester Frazier was the unquestioned leader of this season's 24-10 Illini. They finished second in the Big Ten.

The coach says the Illini also need a strong, physical rebounder who can play inside. Weber says forward Mike Davis might be able to help there if he gains weight and gets stronger.
