DePaul's Lenti notches 1,000th softball victory
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - DePaul head softball coach Eugene Lenti recorded his 1,000th career victory on Monday when the No. 21/23 Blue Demons topped Providence 8-0 in the first game of a Big East Conference doubleheader.
Lenti, who has been directing the DePaul program for 28 years, becomes the 12th NCAA Division I softball coach to eclipse the 1,000 win mark. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Famer has taken four teams to the Women's College World Series and tutored 22 All-Americans.
Lenti's career record stands at 1,000-487-6.
The Blue Demons (17-7, 5-0) got on the board early Monday when Amber Patton knocked a two-run home run in the third inning. DePaul added three more runs in the sixth frame. DePaul starter Becca Heteniak helped her own cause with a solo home run to left center in the seventh. The Blue Demons final two runs were scored a fielding error at third base.
Game two of the doubleheader was canceled in the top of the second due to heavy rain.
