Teen charged in death of mother

OAK LAWN -- A 17-year-old boy from the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn is facing first-degree murder charges in the death of his 46-year-old mother, whose body was found this week in her apartment.

Oak Lawn Police Chief William Villanova said at a news conference Friday that officers are awaiting the extradition of Ryan A. Dicharo from the Champaign County Jail, where he was being held on unrelated burglary and battery charges. Villanova said Dicharo has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder.

Dicharo was charged in the death of his mother, Lorene Sams, whose body was found Thursday afternoon during a well-being check by the Oak Lawn police.

Villanova said Sams had suffered multiple injuries from two different weapons, but declined to disclose the nature of the weapons.
