Elgin League of Women Voters host candidates forum

The League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area and Gail Borden Public Library are sponsoring a candidate forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove, Elgin.

Candidate forums are always open to the public. Democratic, Green Party, and Republican candidates running for Elgin Township offices have been invited to appear at 7 p.m. They will have two minutes to make a statement and then answer audience questions. This portion is co-sponsored by the Unity in Community Coalition.

At 8 p.m., candidates for the Elgin Area School District U-46, Elgin Community College District 509 and Gail Borden Public Library District boards will appear and have two minutes to make a statement and then answer audience questions.

Leagues present candidate forums so that voters can see, hear and compare candidates before heading to the voting booth. The league does not support or oppose political parties or candidates.

In addition, the league has published an electronic Voter's Guide featuring the candidates for Elgin City Council. It can be accessed at www.elgin.il.lwvnet.org/2009_Elgin_Voters_Guide.html.

The consolidated election will be Tuesday, April 7. Early voting has started. For sites for early voting in Kane County, visit www.kanecountyelections.org. For sites in Cook County, visit www.voterinfonet.com.
