GC pitchers dominate again
Another pair of Grayslake Central juniors combined on a 1-hit shutout, as the Rams beat visiting Zion-Benton 4-0 in nonconference baseball action Friday.
Mitch Tielke and Matt Murphy led Grayslake Central to its second 1-hit shutout in as many days. Tielke threw 4 innings for the win, striking out three and allowing 1 hit. Murphy fired 3 no-hit frames with 4 strikeouts.
So far this season, the unbeaten Rams (3-0) have allowed 1 earned run in 21 innings.
"Can't ask much more from our pitching and defense through three games," coach Troy Whalen said. "However, it's a long season and all of our guys know there is plenty of room for improvement."
Andrew Hosford homered, singled and drove in 2 runs, while Mike Gentile had 2 singles. Kurt Schmidt added a double for the Rams.
Grayslake Central is scheduled to host Mundelein at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Round Lake 9, Wheeling 8: Ed Adamson earned his first win as coach, as the Panthers rallied from a pair of 5-run deficits.
Jeff Nicoline led Round Lake (1-1) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI, and also pitched 2 innings of 1-hit ball in relief to notch the win. He had 3 strikeouts.
Mike Fuller had a single and 2 RBI for the Panthers, while Adam Fernandez added a double.
Libertyville 4, Deerfield 3: Adam Quinn's 2-run double capped a 3-run bottom of the seventh inning, as the Wildcats won their fourth in a row.
Libertyville (4-1) loaded the bases in the seventh on pinch hitter Brad Martin's walk, Clint Carlson's single and Brandon Fowkes' bunt hit.
A.J. Schurr then drew an RBI walk, before Quinn scored Carlson and Fowkes with his double.
Mike Seefeldt (2-0) earned the win.
