Earth Week volunteers needed:
Naperville Park District is seeking volunteers to help make Naperville parks better during a weeklong celebration of Earth Week, April 18-26. Volunteers are needed to collect litter, weed, mulch, remove fallen twigs and clean trails in the following parks: Brooks Crossing, Brook Prairie, Burlington Woods, Carol Acres Park, Clow Creek Greenway, Country Lakes Park, DuPage River Park/Royce Road, Heritage Woods, Hobson West Ponds, Knoch Knolls Park, Seager Park, Springbrook Crossing, Springbrook Parkway, Tall Grass Park and Wildflower Park. Volunteers also are needed for a Riverwalk cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon April 18. $6,000 bicycle stolen:
Naperville Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a thief who stole a S-Works Tarmac SL Sram white and blue bicycle valued at $6,000. Police said the bike was stolen about 11:40 a.m. March 20 when the suspect used a large bolt cutter to cut the lock on the bike that was on the southeast side of the train station at 105 4th Ave. The suspect, who had hidden the bolt cutter in his backpack, fled south from the depot. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006. Callers may remain anonymous.
Read-a-thon in Aurora:
Aurora Public Library will celebrate El Dia de los Ninos - a day in which children are honored by their communities - with a bilingual Read-a-Thon April 25. Participants can read children's books aloud from 1 to 2 p.m. at the library's bookmobile at the city's El Dia de los Ninos Fiesta or starting at 2 p.m. at the main library downtown.
