Scholarship applications:

Applications are being accepted for scholarships that Central DuPage Hospital's Auxiliary will award to high school, college and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in health care. To qualify, students must have plans to attend a college, university or graduate program in the fall. They also must document academic excellence, plan to pursue a career in health care and live within Central DuPage Hospital's service area. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available online at cdh.org. The completed application, personal statement, transcripts and reference letters are due Tuesday.

Flapjacks with firefighters:

The North Aurora Fire Protection District is having a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon April 5 at Station 1, 2 N. Monroe St. The funds generated will be used to purchase materials and educate the community about fire safety. The cost s $15 per family, $5 for individuals, and $3 for senior citizens and children between the ages of 3 and 12. Children under the age of 3 are free.

Drug seminar:

"What's the Buzz," a forum about energy drink use and abuse; the latest drugs being abused; and parents who host parties where youth are served alcohol, will be held at 7 p.m. April 16 at Geneva High School, 416 McKinley Ave. It is sponsored by the Geneva Coalition for Youth.

Yard waste pickup to resume:

Aurora's weekly yard waste and brush collection will start April 6. Between April 6 and 17, the city contractor will collect bagged yard waste on residents' normal garbage collection days without requiring a waste sticker. After April 17, residents must attach a waste sticker to bagged yard waste including grass clippings, twigs and garden debris. Yard waste bags and stickers are available at a number of grocery, hardware and convenience stores; for a complete list, seeaurora-il.org and go to quick links/garbage pickup. Residents also can place unbundled brush at the curb for collection with a sticker from April 6 to the first Friday in November. Call (630) 264-4636.

Batavia half-marathon:

The second annual Foot Mechanics Half Madness 13.1-mile half-marathon is Sept. 6 in Batavia. The race starts and finishes along the Fox River.
